Today one of my newest experiences was to dare and buy a new fruit called Wood Apple.
After 9 years of living in India , I thought of trying this new fruit, which I bought from one of the super markets in Bangalore .
Before starting I decided to do some research about how to break the fruit and how to eat it .
All I got was negative answers regarding the breaking the hard shell and the taste of it .. Very disappointed with my shopping ,decided since I bought it I have to try it and I was prepared for worst ..
To my astonishment the process was not that difficult :), Here is what you need :
Coconut Knife
In India usually every house will have a coconut knife , so you just need to give a crack on top of the fruit shell with the coconut knife, and then you can easily break it in to half .
No Coconut knife????
If you are not having coconut knife you can pick a very strong knife and place it horizontally on the fruits and hit it with hammer, this is what I did for breaking coconut when did not have one.
What was Inside ???
Well let me tell you it was not that bad .. Right it was sour , little bit strange and weird but it was OK ,
in fact I felt it was nice, I could finish the whole fruit and enjoyed eating it .. I guess if you pick up a not so ripe one it can be very sour and disappointing but mine was ripe and it was having some sweetness in it as well ,
The taste was between sour guava and custurd apple. I love both fruits and I liked this one as well .
So friends if you bought one and if you are reading this blog , I recommend you to try it with a open mind ; but not so much of expectation .
You bought it because you wanted to try something new , now its time ..
Good luck and I hope to see your comments on it
Cheers!!!
